And you wonder what the problem is?

From Patriot Post, 07-28 Chronicle:

  • "“So much of what you say just grabs people like me, because it sounds like Bobby Kennedy. It sounds like the ‘60s at its absolute best.” —MSNBC’s Chris Matthews to Barack Obama."

Couldn't we just stay in the 2000's?

I'm not so sure this is such a problem... we all hearken back to to the past (& past heroes) at times.

I note this story from a couple months back: "GOP Hopefuls Evoke Reagan at Debate"

Unless you actually mean that Bobby Kennedy and the '60s is the problem?

Our perception is different. I do not read Chris Matthews comment as "hearkening" to the '60's, but "desiring a return to the '60's" at its absolute best.

We can't go back! Often, I feel that is what the left wants. I may be mistaken, but this is my perception.

The article you mention is about a debate that took place at the Reagan Library with Nancy Reagan sitting in the front row. I think references to him in that venue were more respectful than a desire to return to Reagan years.

Besides, a return to the '80's is twice as reasonable as a return to the '60's - 20 years vs. 40 years!

Finally, I do believe that the '60's were a problem, although I do not remember or know enough about Bobby Kennedy to judge him. That is the decade the society lost many values that are very important to me. I never want that to repeat!
