SLIPPERY SLOPE?
From an Agence France-Presse article of August 22, 2008, titled: "Japanese create stem cells from wisdom teeth". The news is great! But the following paragraph is scary:
"But studies on embryos are strongly opposed by religious conservatives, who argue that such research destroys human life, albeit at its earliest stage of development."
Why a slippery slope?
"But studies on - elderly people - are strongly opposed by religious conservatives, who argue that such research destroys human life, albeit - at its last stage of existence."
"But studies on - retarded children - are strongly opposed by religious conservatives, who argue that such research destroys human life, albeit - they will not contribute to society."
"But studies on - retarded adults - are strongly opposed by religious conservatives, who argue that such research destroys human life, albeit - of a non-contributing part of society."
"But studies on - (you fill in the race) - are strongly opposed by religious conservatives, who argue that such research destroys human life, albeit - they contaminate our society."
Does this string of hypothetical statements follow the first? It certainly could and I am sure has.
Our protection from this attitude is the protection of human life at all stages. ALL!
