The Irrationality of the new Administration and Dem Congress!

We are hearing a lot from BHO and his congressional cohorts about spending amounts of money that no one can understand, much less evaluate, rationally.

Steve Chapman points out the ultimate irrationality - and total lack of understanding of our Constitution - of voting to allow representation for Washington, D.C. His final paragraph starts with this:

"If Americans think they were mistaken on this point, the way to correct the error is a constitutional amendment. For the president and Congress to pretend none is needed betrays an alarming casualness about the Constitution."

More Wisdom...

"Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state lives at the expense of everyone."

--French economist, statesman and author Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)

This is really not hard to understand, yet the left will not recognize this simple fact!

You must allow "everyone" to grow - things like tax cuts to increase investment and government revenue - in order to afford some level of appropriate government expenditures.

WISDOM OF THE FOUNDERS ON STIMULUS

From the Patrot Post Chronicle, 2/18/09:

"The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale."

--Thomas Jefferson

If we would only listen to them!

Deconstructing Krugman

An interesting article analyzing Paul Krugman's theories and the BHO administration's acceptance of them.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/02/deconstructing_krugman.html

It is written by a New York City businessman and investor of whom I have no knowledge. But it seems to me his points are well taken. Krugman, who he thinks highly of as an economist and a Nobel Prize winner - although in this day and age that simply means you are far left and hated George Bush - believes he is too dependent on analysis and quite short on wisdom and understanding the people.

An interesting perspective which time will prove or disprove.

Thomas Sowell on Stimulus and Bailouts

Thomas Sowell's "Random Thoughts", a periodic commentary on our society, has these two gems today:

"The adage 'follow the money' will be hard to apply in the current administration, when there is so much money going in all directions that it is doubtful whether anybody can follow it."

The "porkapalooza" stimulus will be impossible to monitor. The Dems like that!

"I hate to hear about "partnerships" between government and business, or between government and other organizations. When there is a partnership between an ant and an elephant, who do you suppose makes the decisions?"

I weep for our banking system. Government decisions (Barney Frank, et al) have put us in the position we are in, and now they will have even more to say in its direction!

THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE STIMULUS!

Burton W. Folsom, in a speech January 9, 2009, to a seminar sponsored by Hillsdale's Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship, made the following points regarding the original "New Deal":

"Federal dollars always become political dollars, and the Democrats moved to use federal money to gain votes at election time."

...

"If history is a guide, we have every reason to believe that if President Obama institutes a New New Deal, then universal health care, federal bailouts, and jobs stimulus programs will be costly, will be politicized, and will fail." (my emphasis)

E.J.Dionne and Warped Logic!

Someone please explain the logic of the following paragraph from E.J.Dionnes column in WAPO today:

"Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona said of Obama's $500 refundable tax credit: "Calling a rebate to people who don't pay income taxes a tax cut doesn't make it a tax cut." Presumably Kyl doesn't consider the payroll taxes (or, for that matter, sales taxes) paid disproportionately by low- and middle-income Americans as taxes."

Huh? Why don't we just give everyone who pays no income taxes - the obvious intent of the refundable tax cut - a $50,000 "tax cut" to ease their pain!

And E.J.Dionne is considered an bright spot in the left's idealogues!

Bailed Out BofA Gives $2M to ACORN

Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 5:39 PM

Bank of America, one of the many banks to benefiting from a government bailout, is giving more than $2.1 million directly to the controversial interest group ACORN that engaged in fraudulent voter registration activities in the 2008 election.

The January 29 Chronicle of Philanthropy [subscription only] reported Bank of America's Charitable Foundation is giving the interest group $2,155,000 "for efforts to prevent foreclosures and educate people about finances and purchasing homes.

"The gift is being made in four separate allocations, most of them going to Chicago--the city President Obama hails from. ACORN endorsed Obama in the 2008 presidential election and actively worked to elect him by conducting various get-out-the-vote activities. In the process of those activities ACORN submitted hundreds of fraudulent voter registration forms to local election offices.

Two of the grants, one for $2 million and another for $85,000 are being made to a Chicago ACORN corporation. Another, for $20,000, is being given to a Las Vegas chapter. And, $50,000 is being gifted to ACORN in Miami."

TIM GEITHER

TOM DASCHLE

This is change?

Jonah Goldberg has an interesting analysis, including a quote from Howard Dean:

"I will use whatever position I have in order to root out hypocrisy," Dean promised. "I'm not going to be lectured as a Democrat -- we've got some pretty strong moral values in my party, and maybe we ought to do a better job standing up and fighting for them."

Wish I Had Thought of That!

By JAMES TARANTO from WSJ's Best of the Web Today (2/2/09):

"If a certain sort of conservative tends to be moralistic about sex, liberals tend to be moralistic about money. That makes Tom Daschle the equivalent of a televangelist caught in a sex scandal."

Those two sentences cut to the quick, don't they!
